Can iron supplements cause constipation in breastfed babies?

Iron is present in breast milk in low amounts. Iron supplementation may be necessary after birth and is safe in breastfeeding mothers, as iron passes very poorly into the breast milk.

When prescribed by a Healthcare Professional, iron preparations are not known to cause problems during breastfeeding, however always check with your Healthcare Professional before taking iron supplements.
